Covid-19: the number of patients in intensive care reaches its highest point

PUTRAJAYA: The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care reached a new record with 314 admitted to the ICU and 122 of them on respiratory assistance.

This as Malaysia recorded 3,680 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Jan 27).

The total number of confirmed cases in the country now stands at 194,114.

In the same 24-hour period, seven people died from Covid-19 in the country.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Malaysia is now 707.

The country also discharged 1,858 patients, bringing the number of Covid-19 recoveries in the country to 151,018.

There are currently 42,389 active cases of Covid-19 that are being treated in the country’s hospitals and quarantine centers.

In a statement, Health Director General Tan Sri, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo) said six of the cases were imported infections.

Johor had the highest number of new cases with 1,069.

They are followed by Selangor (822 cases), Kuala Lumpur (698) and Sabah (295).

“Most cases are discovered from clusters of infections and active contact tracing,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

He also said that only 64 new cases were reported from groups of prisons and detention centers, which is about 1.7% of Wednesday’s total.

On the deaths, Dr. Noor Hisham said that three were in Selangor, two in Perak and one in Sarawak and one in Sabah.

They were all Malaysians, between 55 and 84 years old.

Those who succumbed mainly suffered from comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic kidney disease.
