PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has discovered two new Covid-19 clusters, one in Sabah and the other in Perak.
Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Ramai-Ramai group in Sandakan, Sabah originated from a bus driver who suffered from a sore throat and fever since September 27.
“The bus driver was found to be positive for Covid-19 on October 3 and he was admitted to Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for treatment.
“Their close contacts were tested and 19 more people were found to be Covid-19 positive in the group. They have all been admitted to the same hospital, ”Dr. Noor Hisham said at a live Covid-19 briefing from his home on Tuesday (October 6).
He said 146 other people in the group are still waiting for their test results.
Under the Batu group in Taiping, Perak, seven people tested positive for Covid-19 on October 5.
“The group was identified based on a selection of the personnel and relatives of a detention center. Positive cases have been admitted to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.
The ministry has tested 860 people as of noon Tuesday, of which 182 tested negative for Covid-19.
Test results for another 671 people are still pending.
Currently, the Tembok group in Kedah is the largest and most active group in the country, with 1,047 positive cases within it so far.
The group reported 394 new cases Tuesday, more than half of the country’s total new infections.
The Bangau-Bangau group, which focuses on Semporna and Tawau in Sabah, also saw an increase with 30 new cases, bringing its count to 429 cases.
