Covid-19: the group of walls in Kedah registers 224 cases, says the Director General of Health

PUTRAJAYA: The Tembok group in Kedah has continued to experience an astronomical increase in Covid-19 infections after registering 224 new cases.

Centered in Alor Setar Prison, the cluster’s 224 new cases account for more than half of the country’s total 432 new infections.

This has made Kedah the highest scoring state in terms of new cases with 241 infections on Monday (Oct 5), followed by Sabah which has 130 cases.

Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said 215 of the positive cases in the Tembok group are Malaysians, while nine are foreign.

The group of prisons has so far counted 653 cases that include one death and the deceased is the index case of the group.

He is a 46-year-old man who had worked in the prison and died on September 28.

A Covid-19 test after his death found that the man tested positive for the virus.

He had a history of diabetes, heart and kidney disease.

On Sunday (October 4), Alor Setar Prison and its surrounding staff quarters were placed under an enhanced movement control order for 14 days.

During the period of confinement, it is prohibited to enter and leave the prison.

Family members of inmates are also unable to visit them.
