Covid-19 surge in KL with 475 out of 1208 new cases nationwide, death toll now at 309

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia saw a four-figure increase in new Covid-19 cases for the third day in a row on Sunday (November 15) and the Ministry of Health recorded 1,208 new cases.

This brings the total cumulative number of cases in the country to 47,417.

Kuala Lumpur accounts for the majority of new Covid-19 cases, with 475 new cases.

Sabah registered 381 cases, while Selangor registered 185 cases.

The country also reported three new deaths from Covid-19, all from Sabah, bringing the country’s death toll to 309.

One of the deaths involves an eight-year-old girl from Sabah, who was in Tawau Hospital.

In a statement, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were six imported cases (all in Kuala Lumpur) while the rest of the new cases were local broadcasts.

A total of 1,013 patients were discharged, which means that the total number of people who have recovered from Covid-19 in the country is 34,785 or 73.4% of all infections.

Active cases in the country now number 12,323.

Currently 104 people are being treated in intensive care units, of which 42 require respiratory assistance.

Other states that registered new cases of Covid-19 are Negri Sembilan (48), Perak (21), Penang (42), Labuan (30), Johor (nine), Kedah (eight), Sarawak (four), Melaka (two ), with Kelantan, Putrajaya and Perlis registering one case each.

No new cases were reported in Terengganu and Pahang.

Altogether, the Klang Valley recorded 661 cases (54.7% of the total) on Sunday, and the Damanlela construction site group in Kuala Lumpur recorded 460 cases.
