PETALING JAYA: Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said today that Covid-19 is spreading faster in Selangor than in Sabah, following an increase in new daily infections.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Noor Hisham said that Selangor’s Rt value was 1.95 while Sabah’s was 1.26. An Rt value is used to calculate how fast Covid-19 is spreading.
“The increase in the Rt value of Selangor is due to the increase in daily new infections of between 10 and 15 compared to two or three cases before this,” he said.
“This indicates an increased risk of outbreaks if public health measures are not taken.”
Although Sabah’s Rt value had stabilized, he said it was still concerning as it involved a large number of new cases daily.
He also noted that Kedah’s Rt had decreased from more than 1 to 0.65, showing the state’s compliance with effective SOPs.
Meanwhile, the Rt in Malaysia is 1.25
Noor Hisham cautioned that the value of Rt could increase if optimal public health intervention measures are not implemented, said it was important for communities to adhere to SOPs and intervention measures set by the government.
