PETALING JAYA: The upward trend in Covid-19 cases on Saturday (October 3) with 317 cases nationwide has prompted the Ministry of Health to take active and aggressive measures, such as conducting tests in the field to curb the spread of the virus.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said one of the actions taken was close contact tracing or active case detection.

“Other actions include the Enhanced Movement Control Order (MCO) in Kota Setar from September 11 to 25, where 18,701 people, including 87 foreigners, were screened, resulting in 44 positive cases.

“Exams aimed at those who visited Sabah at all national and international points of entry, high-risk group exams in which older people were tested, immigration detainee examinations and health worker examinations, as well as surveillance of activity by monitoring influenza-like illnesses. Actions were also taken for cases and serious acute respiratory illnesses, ”he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said that to ensure that the situation in Sabah was brought under immediate control, the Ministry of Health had mobilized relief teams, dispatched personal protective equipment, ventilators, and opened low-risk treatment centers such as quarantine centers for place the positive cases of Covid-19 that were in stable condition. .

“Sabah has six hospitals, as well as six quarantine centers and low-risk treatment centers, which have a capacity of 590 beds and 1,396 beds respectively.

“As of October 2, the usage rate is 69% in Ministry of Health hospitals and 31% in low-risk treatment centers,” he said, adding that for intensive care units, they had prepared 66 beds for the treatment of Covid- 19 patients and have a usage rate of 23%.
