Covid-19: Six new clusters detected bring total active clusters to 156

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected six new Covid-19 clusters in Malaysia, bringing the total number of active clusters in the country to 156.

General Health Director Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Nahaba group that was detected in Kota Belud, Sabah is responsible for a total of 25 Covid-19 cases.

“The index case in this group was found to be positive for Covid-19 on November 4 from a screening test in people with symptoms.

“An evaluation of close contacts found another 24 that are positive for Covid-19. They have been admitted to the Covid-19 low risk quarantine and treatment center at Bayu Pirasan, Kota Belud, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham at a press conference on Monday (November 9).

He said another group has been called the Numbak group and added that it is centered in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Dr Noor Hisham said the index case was found from an examination done on people who have been kept at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, adding that seven other close contacts were positive for the virus.

Another new group is the Perigi group in Klang, Selangor, which was found from an assessment conducted at a workplace.

A total of 39 positive cases were found in this group and all were admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

The Seri Terapi group, which involves patients in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and Alor Gajah in Melaka, has 12 linked cases.

Another 106 people related to the group are still waiting for their test results.

Padang’s group in Kota Tinggi, Johor, left the index case that turned out to be positive for Covid-19 on November 5, following a screening test in people with symptoms.

Close contact tests found four more positive cases, while results from 160 people are still pending.

In Putrajaya, the ministry also detected a new group called the Harmoni group.

Her index case was found to be positive for Covid-19 on November 7 from an examination conducted at a workplace.

In total, five cases linked to this cluster have been detected.

Meanwhile, of all the existing active groups, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the Cergas group in Negri Sembilan has the most new cases with 130 infections.

Currently, the conglomerate has 250 cases and 1,048 people linked to it have been examined.

The group has seen five people discharged so far.
