PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia confirmed six new Covid-19 cases, marking a return to single digits.
There were also no new deaths after seeing three deaths on consecutive days, meaning the country’s death toll stood at 128.
In a statement on Wednesday (September 2), Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the six cases, four were imported infections and two were local transmissions.
The imported cases involved all foreigners who entered the country from Indonesia (three cases) and Syria (one).
The two local cases were all Malaysian nationals, including a new case linked to the MV Glen cluster in Selangor.
The group, which was first reported on August 30, is related to a ship in Port Klang. So far, there are three confirmed cases.
The other case of local transmission was detected in Pahang from an examination carried out at a workplace.
The patient was asymptomatic and was admitted to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan.
Altogether, Malaysia’s positive cases are 9,360 since the outbreak began in January this year.
Malaysia also discharged four more patients, which means the total recoveries is 9,079, or a rate of 97%.
The total number of active cases in the country is now 153 cases.
Four people have been admitted to intensive care units and three of them required respiratory assistance.
