PUTRAJAYA: People returning from Sabah and testing negative for Covid-19 should self-quarantine at home, although this is not required, says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director general of Health said that the quarantine was not mandatory for them, but that it would be better for those with self-regulation orders to stay home and avoid contact with people as much as possible.

“Although they are not required to be quarantined, we recommend that they follow SOP (standard operating procedure).

“Stay home, avoid close contact with anyone and adhere to the 1 meter physical distance (rule),” Dr. Noor Hisham said at the ministry’s Covid-19 press conference here on Tuesday (September 29) .

The self-regulation order is only for those who have tested negative for Covid-19, are asymptomatic, and have not had close contact with any positive cases of Covid-19.

Those who test negative but are close contacts of Covid-19 patients or have symptoms should undergo quarantine.

Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia would ensure that those who test positive for Covid-19 are treated in hospitals.

“In other countries, Covid-19 positive patients are being isolated at home. In Malaysia, they must be sent to hospital,” he said.

Starting Sunday (September 27), all passengers on the flight returning from Sabah must undergo Covid-19 testing.
