KUCHING (Nov 20): Sarawak today recorded two new Covid-19 cases, including a case in Miri that was detected by a random swab test at workplaces, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said.
The committee in its daily update statement said today that the two cases were detected in Miri and Kuching respectively, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state to 1,055.
“Case 1,054 involves a man who is a technical executive at an oil and gas company in Miri and was detected by a random swab test conducted by the Miri Health Office at various workplaces in Miri city since beginnings of November. He was admitted to the isolation ward at Miri Hospital for further treatment.
“Case 1,055 involves a local man who is an official who was in close contact with case 1,051 of the Besi conglomerate. He was found positive today after undergoing active Covid-9 case detection on November 19 and was admitted to the isolation ward at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment, ”he said.
Both cases showed no symptoms of Covid-19 infection and had no history of traveling abroad or visiting high-risk areas in the past three months.
With two new cases registered today, Sarawak today retains its seventh day of positive single-digit Covid-19 cases. The last time the state recorded double-digit cases was on November 13, with 12 in Kuching and one in Lawas.
Meanwhile, with the addition of Case 1,055, the number of positive cases detected in the Besi group increased to 12 cases, including the index case.
Other groups in Kuching, such as the Jalan Abell, Baki, Seladah, Greenhill and Wisma Saberkas groups, did not register any new cases to this day.
In the statement, SDMC also said that there were nine new cases that recovered from the virus and were discharged from the hospital.
This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases in the state to 971 or 92.04 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state.
Currently there are 65 cases that continue to receive treatment in hospitals, of which 57 are in isolation rooms at SGH and 8 cases at Miri Hospital. There are no cases that are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit today.
With no reports of deaths, the death toll in the state stood at 19 or 1.92 percent.
SDMC also said that eight new cases of persons under investigation (PUI) have been detected today.
