PETALING JAYA: Sabah recorded the highest local transmission of Covid-19 cases on Monday (September 14), as 23 of the 31 new cases recorded were from Sabah, says Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said 17 cases were linked to the Benteng LD cluster and eight of them were foreign.
“Of this group, 16 of the new cases occurred in Tawau while another occurred in Lahad Datu,” it said in a statement.
“Four new cases were registered in the Bunga group from Negri Sembilan, involving members of a ship’s crew, one of whom was a foreigner.
“The Sungai group in Kedah registered a new case,” he said.
Of all the cases of local transmission, 19 of them were Malaysians and the rest were foreign.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were three imported cases, bringing the total number of infections in Malaysia to 9,946 cases.
Dr. Noor Hisham also asked residents in Kedah’s Kota Setar district that was placed under an enhanced motion control (MCO) order until September 23 to continue to stay home.
He said several high-risk areas have been identified and screening tests for local residents are still underway.
“So far, the selection process is going well and there has been good cooperation from the locals.
“The cooperation of all residents is needed to stay home and only leave the house for necessary business,” he said, adding that residents are also advised not to leave the area under the improved MCO.
