Covid-19: Recoveries Outnumber New Cases Again, Says Director General of Health

PETALING JAYA: The number of patients recovering from Covid-19 has once again outnumbered new cases, as 3,505 more were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 205,774.

Health Director General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah said 3,318 new cases were recorded on Friday (February 12), bringing the total cases to 258,306 since the start of the pandemic last year.

“Seven of the cases were imported while the rest are local broadcasts, 50.5% of them involve citizens and 49.5% non-citizens,” he said.

In a statement, Dr. Noor Hisham said that five of the imported cases were found in Kuala Lumpur, while one was detected in Selangor and Johor each.

Dr Noor Hisham said the disease also claimed 17 more people aged 54 to 97, bringing the death toll to 953.

There are currently 51,579 active cases in the country, 258 are being treated in intensive care units and 119 need respiratory assistance.

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of new cases with 1,214 Covid-19 cases, followed by Johor with 742 new cases and Kuala Lumpur with 374 new cases.

There are now 84,495 cases in Selangor, 29,543 cases in Johor and 31,157 cases in Kuala Lumpur.

Perlis was the only state with no new cases on Friday. There are currently 192 cases there.

The Health Ministry also announced 14 new clusters, 13 of which are linked to the workplace.

On Thursday (February 11), 3,774 people recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia, as the country recorded 3,384 new cases.
