The Health Ministry said the shorter period was in line with reports showing that the infection rate was highest in the first week after exposure to the virus.

PETALING JAYA: The mandatory quarantine period for Covid-19 has been reduced from 14 days to 10, starting tomorrow, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah announced today.

The shortened period applies to travelers returning from abroad and close contacts of Covid-19 patients under observation.

The 10-day quarantine period was applied in Britain, Germany and Belgium, while France reduced the quarantine to 7 days, he said.

Noor Hisham said the shorter period was in line with the latest clinical reports from around the world, which showed that the infection rate was highest in the first week after exposure to the virus. “The risk of infection post-quarantine will decrease over a quarantine period of time,” he said.

The Health Ministry’s decision follows a review of the quarantine period that was announced on December 4.
