Covid-19: Primary school ordered closed after teacher tested positive in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU (Bernama): A primary school in Kuala Nerus near here was ordered to be temporarily closed after one of its teachers tested positive for Covid-19, says Terengganu Health Director Dr. Nor Azimi Yunus.

He said that comprehensive disinfection activities at the school, which will be closed as of Friday (October 2), will be carried out by the state Fire and Rescue Department.

“A total of 62 students, 23 teachers and five support staff members, identified as close contacts with the patient, underwent screening tests on October 1 and have been placed under supervision and quarantine,” said in a statement the Friday.

Terengganu registered three new positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 11 active cases in the state.

All cases have been admitted to Hulu Terengganu Hospital for treatment.

Dr. Nor Azimi said that one of the new cases had a history of travel to Sabah, while the other two cases were close contacts with a patient who had just returned from Sabah.

“People have been advised to always be vigilant in staying home and not going out unnecessarily, to avoid being in a crowded place and to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as to practice the new regulations that have been outlined by the Ministry Health, “she said.

People who have just returned from Sabah or any red zone in the last 14 days have been urged to be honest and responsible when attending any health facility in the state to undergo a Covid-19 risk assessment by health personnel, he said. – Bernama
