PUTRAJAYA: The Penang Pretrial Detention and the prison officers’ quarters will be subject to an Enhanced Movement Control Order (MCO) from October 15, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said this will involve 2,830 people, including inmates, prison staff and their families.

He added that the measure was necessary to control the spread of Covid-19, especially to stop infections within the community.

“There will be no movement in and out of the area. Any movement among the prison staff will be determined by the prison authorities.

“Food and other basic staples will be distributed to those affected,” he said at his regular briefing on Tuesday (October 13).

Ismail added that those who are in pre-trial detention and about to be released will be separated, screened for Covid-19, and quarantined.

“Those who test positive will be sent to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
