Covid-19 outbreak in police dungeon, death toll rises to 128

COVID-19 | Malaysia has reported 14 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to noon today, including an outbreak in a police dungeon in Sabah.

Additionally, a second patient died of Covid-19 in the Tawar group in Penang, making it the third recorded death in four days.

At a press conference in Putrajaya today, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that of the 14 new cases, nine were acquired locally, including seven in the newly detected group.

“The Ministry of Health wishes to report that a new group has been identified as a result of the selection of new detainees at the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters, Sabah.

“So far, 50 detainees have been tested on August 28, 2020, and of these, seven tested positive for Covid-19 and 43 people tested negative,” he said.

Noor Hisham added that those who tested positive did not show any symptoms and were admitted to Lahad Datu hospital. They are made up of six undocumented immigrants and one Malaysian citizen.
