GEORGE TOWN: The O2 Klinik in Ayer Itam will be temporarily closed for disinfection after one of his patients tested positive for Covid-19.

The clinic said that through contact tracing, it discovered that the patient had visited its facility in Ayer Itam on Sept. 1 for treatment.

The treatment, however, was for diarrhea and the patient did not show any Covid-19 symptoms such as fever, runny nose or cough. The patient subsequently went to Lam Wah Ee Hospital.

In a statement on Monday (September 7), the clinic said that during the visit, four nurses and several doctors were on duty and all followed the standard operating procedure (SOP) when wearing face masks, performing a surface disinfection every other hours and social distancing assured.

“According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, patients and medical personnel who were exposed were sent to be evaluated and closely monitored,” said the clinic.

The immediate disinfection of the entire clinic was also carried out according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, he added.

The clinic also said that the patient did not visit 02 other branches in Penang.

On September 6, the 89-year-old patient became the last person in the state to contract the virus.

Following his visit to Lam Wah Ee Hospital, where he was initially admitted to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit for acute gastroenteritis on Saturday (September 5), he was transferred to Penang Hospital.
