Covid-19: No new positive cases recorded in Sarawak today

KUCHING: There are no new positive Covid-19 cases registered in Sarawak today as the state continues to register more patients recovering from the disease.

The chairman of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said that there are nine Covid-19s that were recovered and released today,

Eight of them were discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and another from the Sibu Hospital.

“Of the total 544 Covid-19 cases so far, 73.35 percent of them have recovered,” he said in today’s daily update.

Uggah, who is also Senior Deputy Minister, said that 64 new cases of Person Under Investigation (PUI) have also been registered, of which 55 are still awaiting the results of his laboratory tests.

It also revealed that 127 patients or 23.35 percent of Covid-19 are still being treated in hospitals, while one patient is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

There are no more patients under intubation.

The Covid-19 so far has killed 17 people or 3.13 percent of the total cases in Sarawak.

According to previous updates, today is also the fourth time that Sarawak has not registered any new cases of Covid-19.

On another matter, Uggah said that SDMC received 25,583 notifications to start businesses from various economic sectors that were allowed to reopen under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.

It revealed that 18,083 notifications were made online while the remaining 7,500 were made by email.

He also said that as of today, 7,943 requests for inter-district travel were received at 28 police district headquarters across the country, of which 7,514 had been approved.

“We have to be very strict about the movement of people from one district to another. This includes people who work in the plantation industry, they are not allowed to leave their workplace unless they have reason to do so, ”he said.

He also said that 2,161 locations had been inspected to ensure compliance with the CMCO, which included supermarkets (270), restaurants (372), factories (32), banks (209), government offices, (75), markets (284), places of worship (77), recreational areas (46), construction sites (17) and others (779).
