Covid-19: No new cases were recorded in Sarawak today, 2 groups remain active

KUCHING (Oct 16): Sarawak registered no new Covid-19 cases today, keeping the total number of positive cases in the state at 759.

In a statement, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that there were two cases of recovery and discharged. They were discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Sibu Hospital, respectively.

To date, 696 or 91.7% of all cases have been recovered and discharged.

“A total of 44 cases continue to be treated in the isolation rooms of the hospitals. Of these, 27 cases are being treated at SGH, eight cases at Miri Hospital, seven at Bintulu Hospital and two at Sibu Hospital, ”he said.

The two groups, the Bah Arnab group and the Putra group, remain active in the state.

Bah Arnab’s group in Kuching has four cases recorded to date. A total of 40 people have been tested and 36 close contacts tested negative.

The Putra cluster in Bintulu did not record any new positive cases, keeping the total of infections in this cluster at six people, including the index case, and one of them was detected and recorded in Selangor. As of 12 p.m. Friday, 160 people tested negative, while 24 are still awaiting the results. A total of 75 people were tested a second time (day 10), in which 35 tested negative and 40 individuals are still awaiting the results.

Regarding Person Under Investigation (PUI), there were six new ones, pending laboratory results.

This brings the cumulative total of PUI to 9,874 to date.

In terms of people under surveillance (PUS), there are 131 people who checked into hotels for their mandatory quarantine on Friday. This brings the current total PUS to 1,866 people at 23 hotels statewide.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period number 26,519.

With no reported deaths, the death toll in the state stands at 19 or 2.5 percent of all cases.
