Covid-19: New Iron Cluster Emerges in Sarawak

KUCHING (Nov 18): The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) identified a new Covid-19 group in Sarawak called the Besi Group.

This group involves the Demak Laut and Batu Lintang area in Kuching after the index case was identified following an individual assessment of Covid-19 symptoms on November 15.

Close contact tracing yielded four more cases and all of them have been kept in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

According to a statement from SDMC today, as of noon today, 237 people have been tested, with five testing positive, 220 negative, and another 12 awaiting the results of their lab tests.

“Of the five cases in the Besi Cluster, three were new cases reported today,” the SDMC statement said today.

Meanwhile, five other groups remain active in Sarawak and the Baki group, Seladah group, Green Hill group, Wisma Saberkas group and Jalan Abell group do not report any new positive cases today.

The Jalan Abell group has registered 15 cases so far, while the Baki group has 33 cases, the Seladah group has nine cases, the Green Hill group has 91 cases, and the Wisma Saberkas group has 44 cases. All figures include index cases for the respective group.

Similarly, the State Department of Health and various agencies under the SDMC have conducted active case detection since November 16 at a factory in Demak Laut in Kuching following the detection of a positive case there.

The first round of close contact detection also took place on November 17 with 221 people tested. A positive case was found.

At noon today (November 18), one more person tested positive in the new group. Disinfection and sanitation of the premises was also carried out.
