PUTRAJAYA: Daily Covid-19 infections in Malaysia remained below the 2,000 mark for the fifth day in a row, as active cases continued to trend downward.
In his daily statement, the Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo) said there were 1,448 new cases of Covid-19 in the country on Wednesday (March 10).
Selangor continued to be the state with the highest number of infections with 561 new cases or 38.7% of the country’s total.
“Of the total in Selangor, approximately 486 cases or 86.3% have been discovered in groups and contact tracing activities, followed by Johor with 273 cases (18.9%) and Sarawak with 199 cases (13.7%) ”Said Dr. Noor Hisham. .
Ten cases were imported infections while the rest were local transmissions.
Malaysia has now recorded a total of 317,717 confirmed infections.
The number of active cases is now down to 18,010 from 18,704 the day before.
Another 2,137 people have been discharged, which means that to date 298,516 Covid-19 patients have been recovered in the country.
Of that total, 151 are currently in intensive care treatment, and 72 require respiratory assistance.
Dr. Noor Hisham also announced five more deaths from the coronavirus, bringing the country’s total deaths to 1,191.
“The deaths affected all Malaysians, in which two of the cases are in Selangor, while the others are in Johor, Melaka and Sabah,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.
