Covid-19: New group identified in Kedah after the death of a man in the emergency room

PETALING JAYA: A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in Alor Setar, Kedah, involving a 46-year-old local man who died on Wednesday night (September 30), the Health Ministry says.

He said that Tembok’s group was confirmed after the man tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday (Sept. 28), after being rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital emergency department with breathing difficulties that began on the 21st. of September.

“His condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead at 6.15 pm.

“The Covid-19 test came back positive,” Tan Sri Director General of Health Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement on Wednesday (September 30).

He said the deceased was diabetic with a history of heart and kidney disease.

After this, he added, the examination that was carried out revealed that two close contacts of the deceased tested positive for the virus. They have been admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for treatment.

As of noon on Wednesday (September 30), Dr. Noor Hisham said, 169 people connected to the group had been examined, and three positive cases were confirmed, while the remaining 166 were awaiting results.

He said investigations were underway to determine the source of the infection.

The 46-year-old local was between the two deaths on Wednesday (Sept. 30).

The other death involved a 70-year-old man suffering from end-stage cancer who passed away at home on September 26, where tests at Tawau Hospital, Sabah, on Tuesday (September 29) confirmed the Covid- infection. 19.

A total of 136 deaths have been recorded due to Covid-19 since the pandemic outbreak earlier this year.
