Covid-19: New cluster in Keningau related to various meetings

KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in the Keningau district after the coronavirus was found to have been transmitted at various meetings.

The Minister of Housing and Local Government of the State, Datuk Masidi Manjun, said on Friday (March 5) that the group in Kuala Punteh has 25 accumulated cases and that its index case was identified through a pre-admission examination in a hospital of the district on February 26.

“Upon further investigation, the index case is believed to have been infected by family members who lived in the same house and attended a Chinese New Year dinner on February 11, a rice gathering meeting that began on February 14 and a Chap Goh Meh celebration on February 26.

“The Keningau Health office is still conducting a close contact examination,” he added in a statement regarding the daily developments of Covid-19 in Sabah.

Masidi also said that in accordance with standard operating procedures, the state government agreed that business hours for economic sector activities will be from 6 am to midnight.

According to his statement, Sabah registered 97 new cases on Friday, bringing the state’s cumulative number to 53,313. No fatalities were reported.
