Covid-19: New cluster detected in Kedah involving two health workers, says Director General of Health

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected a new conglomerate in Kedah, called the “Sungai conglomerate”, which has two confirmed cases so far.

The two cases in the group are two health workers who work in a private medical center.

Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index case is that of a 39-year-old woman who experienced symptoms since August 30, but had not sought treatment for it.

“A test for Covid-19 was performed on September 5 and the case was confirmed positive,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in a statement on Monday (September 7).

The second case is 36 years old and is a close contact of the index case.

He tested positive for Covid-19 on September 5 and also developed symptoms.

“Both cases have been admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar and are being treated and isolated,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

So far, the ministry has started active case detection and selection of close contacts.

Some 55 related people have been examined and are still awaiting their results.
