Covid-19: M’sia returns to triple digits with 147 new cases, three deaths raise the death toll to 133

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has returned to triple digits, recording 147 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (September 23) and three new deaths.

This brings the total number of infections to 10,505 cases.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Tan Sri, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that of the 147 new cases, 143 were transmitted locally.

Sabah again recorded the highest number of cases, 110 infections among Malaysians and 24 cases among non-citizens.

Kedah had five local cases, while Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur had one case each.

Meanwhile, a total of four boxes were imported, three from India and one from Indonesia.

The three deaths recorded on Wednesday (September 23) brought the death toll to 133, or 1.27% of the total number of cases.

The 131st death was a 48-year-old Indonesian woman with a history of diabetes and hypertension who was admitted to Tawau Hospital on September 18 in a semi-conscious state, said Dr. Noor Hisham.

He died on September 19, and on Tuesday (September 22), his Covid-19 test came back positive.

The 132nd death was of a 54-year-old Malaysian man who was treated at Semporna Hospital on September 18 after showing symptoms.

He succumbed to the disease on Tuesday (September 22) and his Covid-19 tested positive the same day.

The 133rd death was of another Malaysian man, aged 72, with a history of stroke.

“It was close contact with another patient who had passed away in the Tawar group.

“He was asymptomatic and tested positive for Covid-19 on August 19 and was admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar.

“He died on Wednesday (September 23) morning,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Dr. Noor Hisham also said that 39 patients had recovered with a total of 9,602 recoveries or 91.40% of the total number of cases since the Covid-19 outbreak began.

There are currently 770 active cases under treatment in the country’s health facilities, with eight patients in intensive care units (ICU) and two of them required ventilatory support.
