PUTRAJAYA: More than 1,000 school-age children have been infected with Covid-19 since the third wave of the outbreak began in the country a month ago.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that from September 20 to October 21, around 587 Covid-19 cases correspond to students aged seven to 12 years.
Meanwhile, 670 positive cases correspond to people between 13 and 18 years old.
“This is the number of cases that affected students during the third wave from September 20 to October 21.
“Since the start of the outbreak in February, Covid-19 has infected 830 students aged between 7 and 12 years. For those aged 13 to 18, there are 1,315 positive cases in total,” said Dr. Noor Hisham in the Covid press. 19 of the Ministry of Health. conference here on Thursday (Oct 22).
Dr. Noor Hisham said that the government has so far ordered 12 schools in the country to close following the discovery of Covid-19 cases among students.
“If a student is infected with Covid-19, we will close their school for a week to carry out disinfection and sanitation work. We will also conduct contact tracing activities.
“The infections are coming from outside, but they could spread in schools,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.
Dr. Noor Hisham said that since September 20, the government has closed 12 schools after discovering Covid-19 infections that are linked to existing groups.
Three schools in Negri Sembilan were closed due to cases involving the Cahaya group, the Sofi group and the Bah Manggis group.
Three more schools in Johor were also ordered closed after detecting cases related to the Simera group and the Rinting group.
Kuala Lumpur has two schools closed due to the link with the Jalan Pantai group and the Long group.
Penang, Melaka, Putrajaya and Sarawak have a school that was ordered to close after finding cases related to the Alma group, the Bukit group, the Selasih group and the Bah Arnab group, respectively.
