KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Ministry of Health (MINSA) will assess the need for Covid-19 patients who have recovered to receive the vaccine against the virus, says the Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Dr Noor Hisham said that antibodies generated by former patients who experienced level one to level three infection with mild or no symptoms may not be enough to fight the virus, therefore they may need to be vaccinated .

“If the infection were at level four or five, the antibodies generated would be more permanent and higher, but we will evaluate the matter,” he told Bernama on Tuesday (February 23).

Malaysia will create history by implementing the country’s largest vaccination exercise, known as the National Covid-19 Vaccination Program, on Wednesday (February 24), two days ahead of schedule.

Dr. Noor Hisham will be among the first people to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine after Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin which will mark the launch of the program.

Meanwhile, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the launch of the program would also mark the beginning of the end of the spread of the Covid-19 virus in the country, by protecting from the inside through vaccination.

He said it added to external protection by complying with all preventive measures and public health control, as well as complying with standard operating procedures established to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

“Alhamdulillah … we as healthcare workers can only make an effort and do our best (to slow the spread of infection) and put our trust in Allah SWT,” he said.

Muhyiddin is scheduled to receive the first injection of the vaccine at the Putrajaya Health Center on Presint 11 tomorrow at 3pm and will be followed by a MOH health worker, Dr. Noor Hisham, and other MOH staff.

Recipients will be inoculated with two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine, and the second dose will be administered 21 days after the first injection. – Bernama
