PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has voiced its alarm over a Covid-19 cluster in Kelantan that has seen a rapid increase in the number of cases in just a few days.

Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that in five days, Mengketil’s group recorded 41 cases of Covid-19 in multiple districts and even along the state border.

This is also one of the reasons why the government has decided to implement the conditional movement control order (MCO) in Kelantan from November 21 to December 6.

“Cases in the Mengketil group were first detected in the Machang district, but it has since spread to Kota Baru, Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas and Kuala Krai.

“The infection has even reached Besut in Terengganu. The group has shown a high level of infectivity and there is a great risk that the spread will get out of control if conditional OLS is not implemented, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham on Friday (November 20).

Dr Noor Hisham said on November 3 that Kelantan had only recorded eight cases of Covid-19 in three districts.

However, on November 19, the number of active cases in the state rose to 73 and infections spread across eight districts.

Dr Noor Hisham said that new cases in Kelantan have been found to originate from Covid-19 hot spots, such as the Klang Valley.

“There are people who traveled to Kelantan from red zones and brought the virus and transmitted it to their contacts and family members. The cases are found to come from clusters based in the Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan, such as the Cergas, Kaya and Ikhtisas clusters, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.

He urged the people of Kelantan to stay home as much as possible to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in the state.

“It is expected that in these two weeks, the people of Kelantan will stay at home. If you have to leave, make sure you follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), ”he said.
