MELAKA: Pulau Besar has been temporarily closed for any activity and public visit since yesterday (October 28) until a date to be announced later to curb the spread of Covid-19, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said.

He said the move, which was in line with the decision made at the state security meeting not to allow any large-scale gatherings of more than 50 people at a time, was taken after the sudden increase in Covid-19 cases in the country. and also as a measure to prevent the appearance of new clusters.

“Previously we have carried out comprehensive cleaning in Pulau Besar, and with the celebration of Maulidur Rasul, we do not want to have a new cluster because we have visitors from the red zone.

“All activities there have been postponed and other islands in the state, such as Pulau Upeh, cannot host events involving large gatherings either,” he told reporters after the launch of Ziarah Prihatin in conjunction with the celebration of Maulidur Rasul 1442H here. .

In another development, Sulaiman said the state government would focus on efforts to help people tackle various Covid-19-related issues in the 2021 state budget submission.

“Of course people want the best because many other states and countries are affected by Covid-19, but the current state government will make sure that attention is paid to the needs and well-being of the people,” he said. -Called
