PETALING JAYA: The government should implement a partial motion control order (MCO) to control the spread of the third wave of Covid-19, says MCA.

Party Secretary General Datuk Chong Sin Woon (Photo) He said that while it is not feasible for the country to run a full OLS, he said that certain key measures can be restarted to flatten the curve.

“As the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases continues to rise, the government should consider re-introducing a partial OLS to cut the chain of infections and quell the damage caused by the third wave of the pandemic.

“Taking into account the protection of the national economy, as well as the welfare and livelihoods of the rakyat … certain key measures can be restarted to flatten the curve until a vaccine for coronavirus has been successfully developed and can be use safely, “he said. in a statement on Tuesday (October 6).

Chong called on the National Security Council to take several measures in the next two weeks, one of which was to make it mandatory for those arriving in Peninsular Malaysia or other parts of the country from Sabah or other high-risk areas to undergo mandatory quarantine in a designated center and not at home.

“With the exception of (obtaining) essential necessities, any inter-state travel should be prohibited unless the person requests a letter of approval from the police.

“Ban all kinds of functions where more than 50 people can gather to reduce the risk of group infections,” he said.

Chong noted that the public and private sectors should allow employees to work from home to decrease the need to travel and reduce the risk of infections.

The government, he said, must take urgent action to prevent the virus from spreading further.

“Identifying confirmed cases through mandatory quarantine can prevent Covid-19 from reaching a larger population.

“Otherwise, the health system of our country will be put under tremendous pressure and could even collapse as a result of the treatment of a large number of patients,” he added.

He also called on Malaysians residing in the country to exercise vigilance and take on the role of vanguard.

“Refrain from going out as much as you can. Stay at home. Leave your home only if necessary and even then, strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures set by the authorities.

“Treat it like the MCO is still in effect. Only when we help each other take care of each other can we control the third wave of the pandemic, otherwise all our past efforts will be in vain, “he added.
