PETALING JAYA: Although wearing face masks is considered one of the basic standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the battle against Covid-19, many still do not adhere to it, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Chief Minister (Security) said that the police took action against 196 for this violation on Sunday (October 25).
“Wearing masks is still a big problem because many still don’t adhere to this basic SOP, in addition to social distancing,” he said during his daily Covid-19 press conference on Monday (October 26).
Ismail Sabri also said that the police took action against 857 people for various violations of the movement control order (MCO) on Sunday.
Of the total, 847 compounds were released, while 10 were withheld.
The other violations included failing to observe social distancing (172), failure to provide check-in facilities for clients (175), activities at entertainment points (183), venues operating beyond the allowed time (53), and other violations ( 91).
He said that together, the police-led task force that monitors SOP compliance conducted 42,961 checks across the country on Sunday.
These controls were carried out in supermarkets,
restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks and government offices, as well as transportation hubs.
Ismail Sabri also said that 51 undocumented immigrants were detained for immigration offenses, while two vehicles were seized under Ops Benteng, the operation to protect Malaysia’s borders.
