KUCHING (Bernama): Sarawak’s Disaster Management Committee has decided that all Malaysians entering the state from the peninsula must undergo mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated centers, starting on October 10.

Its president, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said that they must also undergo Covid-19 tests on the second and 10th day of the quarantine.

He said they would also have to bear the cost of screening tests and quarantine.

“Only the Covid-19 detection and quarantine costs for Sarawak residents will be borne by the Sarawak state government,” he said at the daily Covid-19 press conference here on Thursday (October 8).

Uggah, who is also Senior Deputy Minister I, said the mandatory 14-day quarantine order issued on October 4 did not apply to Sarawak residents coming from the peninsula, as they were only required to submit to the Home Surveillance and Observation Order (HSO).

In the meantime, he said that stricter monitoring of those who have been placed under the HSO would also be carried out.

“Action can be taken under the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 1988 (Law 342) against anyone who has violated the order,” he added. – Bernama
