KUALA LUMPUR (September 6): Malaysia recorded six new Covid-19 cases and two recoveries in the 24 hours to noon today, bringing the number of active cases to 154.

The two recoveries marked the lowest number of cases discharged in one day since the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) was enforced on August 7.

Three of the new cases were local infections, including two from the Benteng Lahad Datu (Benteng LD) group in Sabah.

The other local case was in Penang, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

There were three imported cases: two from Indonesia and one from Bangladesh. All three were detected in Kuala Lumpur, according to the statement.

With the latest cases, Malaysia’s total Covid-19 infections rose to 9,397.

Today no new deaths were recorded, leaving the total number of Covid-19 related deaths at 128 or 1.36% of total cases.

Cases being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) increased to six, from five yesterday. Three of them require respiratory assistance, the statement added.

In a related matter, the two new cases from the Benteng LD cluster have increased the total number of infections there to 16. This was from 776 tests performed, of which 434 are still awaiting results.

“Active case detection and close contact examination have been carried out,” the statement said.
