KUALA LUMPUR: The following is the morning update from the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) Rapid Response Team on how to counter the fake news on Covid-19 on social media.
1. The Miri Disaster Management Committee in Sarawak denies the allegation in an article in Mandarin that the residents of Desa Pujut have not yet received face masks and that there is abuse in the distribution of face masks in Miri.
The committee clarified that the distribution in Miri began on April 25 and that 1,182 face masks were distributed to heads of household (KIR) in Desa Pujut 1, while KIR in Desa Pujut 2 received 1,537 pieces.
According to the committee, distribution (of face masks) to Miri city residents is ongoing and any queries can be directed to the Miri Division Disaster Operations Center, which can be contacted at 085-322737 or the City Council of Miri at 085-433501.
2. The Johor Health Department (JKNJ) denies that Econsave Taman Daya, Johor Baru, has closed because positive cases of Covid-19 were detected there as viralized on social media. JKNJ explained that Econsave’s facilities were supposed to be closed from May 6 to 19, 2020 for cleanup work, but was reopened on May 7 after that work was successfully completed.
