Covid-19: Kuching re-enters the red zone with 16 new local broadcasts, 12 from Baki Cluster

KUCHING (Oct 27): Sarawak today recorded 16 new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases in Kuching, as the district is once again labeled a red zone.

At the daily press conference on Covid-19 updates in the state, the Senior Deputy Minister and Chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, revealed that of today’s total number of cases, 12 They are from the Baki group.

The 12 of the Baki Group are between seven and 75 years old, including three primary school students and two secondary school students.

An Enhanced Motion Control Order (EMCO) for Kampung Haji Baki was announced today from October 28 to November 10.

The total number of positive cases in the state is now 819.

“Twelve new cases were detected through active contact tracing in Kampung Haji Baki. These cases were evaluated on October 24, and the results of the rT-PCR test on October 25 showed that they were positive for the virus. All are close contacts of the index case.

“These cases are in the age range of seven to 75 years, with three primary school students, two high school students, five adults and two older adults. Only one case showed symptoms of Covid-19. All the cases have been admitted to the isolation ward of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment, ”he said.

In other new cases, Uggah revealed that three new cases were detected through a close contact examination at a private health center in Kuching.

“These cases are contacts of case 798 that was reported on October 26.

“All these cases underwent a private examination in a private health center on October 26 after case 798 was confirmed positive. The results of the rT-PCR test found that these cases tested positive for Covid-19 on the same day, ”he said.

The other new case was detected through active contact tracing conducted by the Sarawak State Department of Health on October 25.

Uggah explained that the case involved a local man doing business in one of the leading business areas in Kuching City.

“The case underwent an evaluation on October 25 and the results of the rT-PCR test on October 26 revealed that the case tested positive for Covid-19,” he said.

All four cases have no history of travel to high-risk infection areas and have had no contact with positive cases. All have been admitted to SGH’s isolation ward for further treatment.

As the sources of infection are still being investigated, these cases are classified as local transmissions based on the early history of patient movements, until the actual causes are found. Contact tracing is in progress.

Uggah also reported that four groups are still active in Sarawak, namely the ‘Bah Arnab’ group in Kuching, the Putra group in Bintulu, the Baki group in Kuching, and the Seladah group in Kuching.

Meanwhile, Uggah reported that there were four cases of recoveries and discharges during the day, two at SGH and two at Miri Hospital.

“To date, 736 or 89.87 percent of all cases have been recovered and discharged.

“A total of 64 cases continue to be treated in the isolation rooms of the hospitals. Of that total, 63 cases are being treated at SGH and one case at Miri Hospital.

He added that there were no cases being treated in intensive care units.

In terms of persons under investigation (PUI), there were 20 new cases, three of which are still pending laboratory results.

This brings the cumulative PUI total to 10,011 to date.

As for people under surveillance (PUS), there are 170 people who have checked into hotels for their mandatory quarantine on Tuesday. This brings the current PUS total to 2,030 people at 23 hotels statewide.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period number 28,388.

With no reported deaths, the death toll in the state remains at 19 or 2.32 percent of all cases.
