PETALING JAYA: All educational institutions in Johor Baru will be closed from November 1, says the Ministry of Education.
The ministry said that a total of 376 schools located in the red zone area would remain closed for two weeks until November 14.
He said that the move was due to an increase in Covid-19 cases and because the district has been declared a red zone by the Ministry of Health.
“This involves primary, secondary and private schools registered under the ministry, as well as the Institutes of Teacher Education,” it said in a statement on Friday (October 30).
He added that educational institutions with shelters will also be closed.
“Parents or guardians should take their children who live in shelters home. Those who wish to stay in the shelters during this period will be put in charge of the shelter guards, ”he said, adding that food and beverages will be provided by the respective institutions.
The ministry said that students who are scheduled to sit for international exams during this period must obtain a letter from their schools to sit the exams.
“Principals and principals must ensure that teaching and learning take place at home in accordance with the suitability of the teachers and students.
“The ministry will continue to monitor the situation throughout the country and is working closely with the National Security Council and the Ministry of Health.
“An announcement about school closings will be made for other districts from time to time,” he said.

In a separate statement, the ministry also said that the Special School Admissions Assessment for those entering Form Four in 2020, originally scheduled to begin on November 2, has been postponed indefinitely.
