COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health reported 2,027 new cases of Covid-19 and eight deaths today.
The Klang Valley had the highest number of new cases (41.5 percent) followed by Johor (21.1 percent) and Sabah (18.9 percent).
Of the 687 new cases reported in Selangor, 144 cases were detected through “other examinations”. According to data from the Selangor Health Department, another 48 cases were detected among those who reported symptoms but are not yet linked to any active group.
Another seven cases involved people suffering from a severe acute respiratory infection (Sari) and another eight cases were detected through examinations that were for procedures or pre-employment or hospital admissions.
Main indicators:
- Active cases: 22,887 ↑ (489 more than the previous day)
- ICU patients: 123 ↓ (2 less than the previous day)
- Intubated patients: 52 ↑ (1 more than the previous day)
- Deaths: 8
Of the eight new deaths reported, five occurred in Sabah. The cumulative number of deaths from Covid-19 for Sabah has reached 275 or 54 percent of the national total (509).
The details of the eight victims are as follows:
‘Patient 74.182’: 74-year-old man, deceased in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Perak. There is no known history of disease.
‘Patient 80,539’ – 54-year-old woman, deceased at Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah. There is no known history of disease.
‘Patient 93,490’ – 67-year-old male, deceased at Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sabah.
‘Patient 98,898’: 78-year-old man, deceased at Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah.
‘Patient 99,298’: 63-year-old woman, body taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Selangor. There is no known history of disease.
‘Patient 100,486’ – 62-year-old man, deceased at Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah.
‘Patient 119.306’: 69-year-old man, deceased at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah.
‘Patient 114,036’: foreign woman, 52 years old, body taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah hospital, Selangor. There is no known history of disease.
Of the 2,027 new cases reported, 16 were imported. A breakdown of the new cases is as follows.

The Ministry of Health has not held a press conference today. Their press conferences are typically, but not always, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. RT-PCR capability and test numbers were not available today.
There are currently 242 active Covid-19 clusters. 53 saw new cases.
The largest number of new cases was in the Jalan Perindustrian group (200 new cases) in the Kulai district of Johor. This group, classified on January 1, involves a workplace.
The second most active group was the Tapak Bina Jalan Desa group (116 new cases) involving a construction site, a new group involving the Lembah Pantai district in Kuala Lumpur.
In total, the Ministry of Health today classified 11 new clusters.
The Jalan Playar and Sri Suria clusters involve factories in the Petaling district of Selangor, where 68 and 16 cases have been detected so far respectively.
The Tapak Bina Bukit Semenyih cluster involves a construction site in the Hulu Langat district of Selangor where 17 cases have been detected.
The Bukit Angkat cluster was discovered after a selective evaluation of a company in the Hulu Langat district of Selangor, where 25 cases have been detected.
Parit Jamil’s group involves the Muar district in Johor, where the index case was diagnosed on December 29, 2020 after reporting symptoms. To date, 612 people have been tested and 62 have tested positive for Covid-19.
The Tombovo group involved the Putatan district in Sabah, where the index case was diagnosed on January 3 after reporting symptoms and 18 cases have so far been detected.
The Tapak Bina Jalan Desa cluster mentioned above involved the screening of 800 people and 116 cases detected so far.
Jalan Raja’s group includes a shopping center where a mass evaluation was conducted as of December 19, 2020. To date, 25 cases have been detected in the Cheras, Titiwangsa and Kepong districts of Kuala Lumpur.
The Langit Selatan group involves the Kuantan district in Pahang, where the index case was diagnosed on December 31, 2020 after reporting symptoms. So far, nine cases have been attributed to this group.
Bah Sayap’s group involves Sarawak’s Miri district, where the index case was diagnosed on December 31, 2020 after reporting symptoms. So far, there are five cases in this group.
Mengkuang’s group involves Terengganu’s Marang and Kuala Nerus districts, where the index case was diagnosed on January 1 after reporting symptoms. As of today, there are 10 cases in this group.
