PUTRAJAYA: Swab testing on foreign workers in all sectors and industries will be mandatory in several states, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
They include Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.
He said this will be the first phase to make it mandatory for foreign workers to be tested for Covid-19.
Ismail Sabri added that the special meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) also agreed to the proposal put forward by the Ministry of Human Resources that the RTK antigen test be performed on foreign workers instead of the PCR test.
“We have also agreed to allow private clinics to go to construction sites or industry facilities to do swab tests instead of having long lines at clinics to get tested.
“Also, the results of the RTK antigen test are faster and can be obtained in an hour or two,” he said on Friday (November 21).
He also said that in terms of charges, Socso will subsidize RM60 for the test to be performed on foreign workers who are contributors and the rest will be paid by employers.
The cost of evaluating non-taxpaying foreign workers will be borne by their employers.
