PETALING JAYA: The public does not have to worry about the increase in Covid-19 cases, as the targeted approach method has shown a positive effect in detecting the virus, says Director-General of Health Datuk, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“The public does not have to worry about the increase in new cases following an aggressive and proactive approach led by the government, as this demonstrates the effectiveness of this method.

“The detected cases are being isolated and treated in hospitals to ensure that the virus does not spread in the community,” he said during his daily press conference on Sunday (May 10).

Dr. Noor Hisham said that based on his directed approach method, the ministry has identified selected groups to be examined.

He said that these were the Sri Petaling participants and their close contacts, students and employees of madrasah dan tahfiz linked to the Sri Petaling group, and Malaysians who have returned from abroad.

He said this also includes his health workers, residents of the enhanced movement control order (MCO) locality, the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market (PBKL) and markets linked to it, and also foreign workers who work in construction areas in red zones, as well as older people home.

Dr. Noor Hisham also noted that Covid-19 cases in the country are under control.

“We have observed and found that the cases are under control even though there are new groups.”

“What we have to do right now is that we have to look at the latest cases every day of the recently detected cases and also if the Malaysians are complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP) that have been implemented,” he said.

He said that if Malaysians more than comply with standard operating procedures, Covid-19 cases would be reduced.

Dr. Noor Hisham added that in another week or two, the effects of implementing the conditional MCO would be seen.

He also said that despite the fact that there were three improved areas of OLS, acute case detection was performed and new groups were identified.

“We hope to be able to maintain a double-digit number of cases every day. Our goal is to reduce the number of cases to achieve a new single-digit number of cases in the next week or two,” he said.
