KOTA KINABALU: Anyone who has symptoms of Covid-19 or who has been in close contact with positive cases is urged to undergo testing at any hospital or clinic immediately.

Minister in charge of Covid-19 affairs in Sabah, Datuk Masidi Manjun (Photo), said this was necessary to stop the spread of the disease in the state as soon as possible.

He said that so far, many have been traced and tested positive due to aggressive contact tracing efforts by state authorities.

“Our numbers are high and have been increasing daily, but there is no need to panic,” he said.

Sabah recorded an increase of 451 cases on October 17, with four new deaths and one new group.

This brings the total accumulated cases for Sabah to 6,737, with 4,086 still in treatment.

“We are getting these numbers due to extensive contact tracing and testing of suspected patients from all 11 red zones in the state,” Masidi said.

The red zones are Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak, Tuaran, Penampang, Putatan, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Papar, and Kota Belud.

Sabah Health Department Director Datuk, Dr. Christina Rundi, also urged people in red zones and those who had close contact with Covid-19 positive patients to self-quarantine while awaiting tests.

“It is possible that he is a carrier of the virus and can transmit it to another person,” he said in a statement.

He said that everyone must remain vigilant and that no one can afford to let their guard down.

“We must win this war. Let us break the chain of Covid-19 together,” said Dr. Rundi.
