Covid-19: four new groups identified in Sabah, Penang and Kedah, two groups end

PETALING JAYA: Four new Covid-19 clusters have been identified comprising two in Sabah and one in Penang and Kedah, says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health Director-General also said that two groups in Sabah, Kedah and Terengganu had ended as no new cases had been detected in 28 days.

He said that the groups that had finished were the Bah Lunas and Bah Bemban groups.

“As of Saturday (November 14), Bah Lunas’ group in Kedah had tested 161 people, five of whom tested positive and the rest negative. No deaths were reported.

“For the Bah Bemban group involving Terengganu and Sabah, a total of 222 people were tested and 12 people tested positive and no deaths were reported,” he said in a statement Saturday.

Dr. Noor Hisham pointed out that the four new groups were the Istimewa, Alila, Asunción and Rajawali groups.

“Istimewa’s group in Sandakan, Sabah was identified with an index case that tested positive after the hospital admission test on October 20.

“Further close contact screening tests found another 15 people positive for Covid-19 and they have all been admitted to Duchess of Kent Hospital and also to the low-risk quarantine and treatment center at Sibuga Sports Complex.

“So far, we have tested 54 people from this group and 16 have tested positive,” he said, adding that 11 people are still awaiting the results.

For the Alila group in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, he said he was identified with an index case that tested positive after a symptomatic screening test on October 5.

“The close contact examination found another 22 positive cases and all of them were admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and also to the low risk quarantine and treatment center.

“So far, we have tested 317 people in this group with 23 positives,” he said, adding that 294 people are still waiting for the results.

The Assumption group, Dr. Noot Hisham said, was identified at Seberang Prai Utara and Seberang Prai Tengah in Penang and also at Kulim in Kedah.

“The index case tested positive after a voluntary test on November 11.

“The close contact examination found another nine positive cases and all were admitted to Penang Hospital.

“So far, we have evaluated 10 people from this group, with 56 people waiting for their results,” he said.

As for the Rajawali group in Penang, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the index case tested positive on November 6 and that, in follow-up contacts, another nine tested positive.

He said that so far 90 people have been tested, 10 positive and are waiting for results.
