PETALING JAYA: Foreign workers in Klang and Seremban will begin their mandatory Covid-19 screening on December 1, while those in other areas will be screened in later weeks, says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (Photo).

The Human Resources minister said the assessments will be carried out in stages, with particular attention to high-risk districts.

The screenings would be held for foreign workers in Klang and Seremban from December 1, while other red zones in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Penang would begin their screenings on December 9.

Non-red zones in Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan, as well as all Sabah and Labuan states, would start on December 16.

Saravanan added that the foreign worker screening program would target red zone towns that have dense migrant worker populations.

“To allow this program to be carried out in a comprehensive manner, the Covid-19 screening will be carried out by the Social Security Organization (Socso), with the cooperation of hospitals and private clinics.

“The detection test will use the Rapid Test Kit Antigen (RTK Antigen) method that has been approved by the Ministry of Health, with the costs of the test kits borne by Socso.

“The employer only has to bear the service costs charged by the clinic or the hospital.

“For migrant workers who are not Socso contributors, screening costs must be borne in full by employers,” it said in a statement on Saturday (November 28).

He added that the program will be implemented by the Ministry of Human Resources under the Minimum Standards of Housing and Accommodation for Workers Act of 1990, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among migrant workers.
