Covid-19: five more groups identified in KL, S’gor, Johor

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Ministry of Health (MINSA) has identified five new Covid-19 clusters involving Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor, says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo).

The Director General of Health said that Desa Pinang group was detected in Kepong, Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa and Cheras districts in Kuala Lumpur, as well as in Gombak in Selangor.

The index case in this group tested positive on November 28 by screening symptomatic individuals.

“As of Wednesday (December 2), a total of 120 individuals from this group had been tested, and 25 were found to be positive for Covid-19,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that the second group, the Impian group, was detected in Gombak and the index case tested positive on November 29 after screening for symptomatic individuals.

He said that, as of Wednesday, 220 people had been tested and nine positive cases were detected.

He said that the Baloi group, meanwhile, was detected in Johor Baru and also in Pontian, Johor, and the index case tested positive on November 28 after screening for symptomatic individuals.

“As of today, 166 people from this group have been tested and 30 have tested positive,” he said.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that the fourth group, that of Jernai, involved the Titiwangsa district in Kuala Lumpur and the index case was reported to have tested positive on November 29 as a result of screening before going abroad.

He said that, as of Tuesday (December 1), 45 individuals from this cluster had been tested and 13 positive cases were detected.

He said the final group was the Seri Wangsa group, which also involved Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, and the index case tested positive on November 29 after an evaluation of symptomatic individuals.

“As of today, a total of 154 people have been tested and eight tested positive,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said that with the addition of these five new groups, a total of 369 groups have been reported so far.

He explained that a total of 186 groups had finished, including two on Wednesday, namely the Cahaya group and the Alma group.

“This brings the number of active clusters that are being monitored to 183, and of the total, 44 clusters have reported a higher number of cases.

“The clusters that registered the highest increase in new cases today are the Cluster Batu Tujuh (51 cases), Cluster Beringin (36 cases) and Cluster Kaya (33 cases),” he said.- Bernama
