KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The current situation of Covid-19 infection requires faster and more effective mitigation or intervention, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The prime minister, who previously chaired the special meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) on Covid-19 on Monday (Nov 2), said this followed reports of the increase in the number of positive cases in various districts of Negri Sembilan, Melaka. Perak and Johor, which had turned yellow or red in a week or two.
“Alhamdulillah, I chaired the special NSC meeting on Covid-19 this morning to discuss actions that need to be intensified to curb and manage the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I also expressed my concern about the Covid-19 situation in the country, which still shows an increase in the number of positive cases even though it is not a pronounced increase,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (November 2). ).
As such, Muhyiddin said he had instructed the NSC to carry out a review of the standard operating procedure (SOP) for social and sports activities to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.
He said that the SOP needs to be adjusted just like the SOP during motion control command (MCO).
The prime minister said that the NSC would present the proposal on the adjusted SOP at its meeting on Tuesday (November 3).
He also expressed hope that the stricter SOP would be put into effect immediately, as the current rate of infection was quite concerning.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said that he also agreed with the Sabah disaster management committee’s proposal to amend the MCO’s enhanced SOP in all localities in the state.
He said the amendment to the SOP was aimed at helping the people involved live in an enhanced MCO situation.
The Prime Minister also said that among the positive developments reported at the special meeting was the end of the conditional MCO in eight prisons after no new cases were reported for the past 14 days.
“Congratulations to the Department of Prisons and the Ministry of Health for working well together to curb the spread of Covid-19 in prisons,” he added. – Bernama
