PUTRAJAYA: The conditional movement control order (MCO) imposed in most states until December may be shortened if Malaysia manages to “flatten the curve” of Covid-19 infections, says the Health Ministry.
“The projection for the conditional OLS is for it to be implemented for another four weeks. But if we can flatten the curve, we can lift the conditional OLS earlier and go back to the OLS recovery phase.
“That means we allow more activities to resume, but standard operating procedures still need to be followed,” Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said during the ministry’s Covid-19 press conference here on Monday. (November 9).
He said compliance with SOPs is an issue among the public.
“The most important thing is if everyone can cooperate with the ministry. If everyone can play their part, if they can stay home for two weeks, we can contain the outbreak, ”he said.
On November 7, the government announced that all the states of Peninsular Malaysia except Perlis, Kelantan and Pahang, will be under conditional OLS until December 6.
The order also applies in the affected districts of Sabah.
Under the conditional MCO, schools and universities are closed while sports activities are heavily restricted.
Economic activities are permitted but limited to shorter hours of operation.
Dr Noor Hisham said that under the current wave of Covid-19 that started in late September, the virus has spread within the community and therefore this requires additional precautions.
“There will be no normality, that is why we are adjusting to the new rules because the virus is already in the community.
“We need to live with the virus and adapt to survive and prevent ourselves from getting infected,” he said.
