Covid-19: community outbreaks make up half of the 10 new clusters detected

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected five outbreaks of Covid-19 in communities of Sarawak and Selangor.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said they were among the 10 new groups classified by the ministry on Friday (March 12).

One of them is the Jalan Kunci Air group, which has cases scattered throughout the Gombak and Hulu Selangor districts.

“The index case in this group developed symptoms before testing positive for Covid-19 on March 1.

“A total of 205 people had been screened in this group, of which 18 were confirmed positive,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

The Sena group in Sarawak has 61 positive cases originating from Lorong Sena 1A town in Lutong, Miri.

“So far 166 people have been tested and 61 cases have been confirmed,” he said.

The other five new groups classified by the ministry on Friday are workplace infections and were detected in Selangor, Johor, Penang, Perak and Terengganu.

Lintang Bayan Lepas’ group in Penang has 59 positive cases so far.

“The cases included in this group were first detected on February 25 after factory workers at Lintang Bayan Lepas 6 in Penang tested positive, following a screening exercise.

“So far 687 people have been screened,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that there are currently 440 active groups in the country.
