SINGAPORE: The Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 486 new cases of Covid-19 today, bringing the republic’s infection rate to 23,822.
Preliminary data at noon today showed just two cases involving Singaporeans or permanent residents, while the rest were foreign dorm workers.
The ministry said the lower number of cases today was due in part to fewer tests being processed in a test lab, as it was recalibrating its device for one of the test kits.
Yesterday afternoon, Singapore reported that 33 cases that previously tested positive for Covid-19 actually turned out to be false positives due to a device calibration issue for one of the test kits.
The ministry said it has taken immediate steps to rectify the situation, adding that the laboratory has stopped all testing and is working to resolve the calibration problem.
In addition, there were two results that were misleading and later verified to be negative when re-testing, he said.
Singapore has so far classified 1,329 as community cases, 580 as imported cases and 466 as cases involving foreign workers outside the dormitories.
Meanwhile, foreign workers living in dormitories dominated Sunday’s count of 23,336. Those infections are 20,961, which represents 90% of all cases.
The republic identified five new groups yesterday, bringing the total to about 90 groups.
