Covid-19: Bintulu, Lawas now yellow zones after detecting local transmissions

KUCHING (Dec 26): Bintulu and Lawas are now categorized as yellow zones after both areas recorded a case of local Covid-19 transmission each today.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update statement, said that the new case in Lawas involved a Sarawak woman who tested positive for the virus on December 24.

He added that the new case reported in Bintulu involved a South African man, who tested positive for Covid-19 on December 24.

“The status of Bintulu and Lawas has changed from green to yellow after each has reported a case of local transmission,” SDMC said.

Two other districts that remain as yellow zones are Sibu and Kuching.

SDMC said that Sibu reported two cases of local transmission and Kuching had one of those cases in the past 14 days.

According to SDMC, a total of 24 people continue to receive treatment at various hospitals across the state.

Of the total, he said 10 cases were from Sarawak General Hospital, followed by six cases from Miri Hospital, five cases from Bintulu Hospital and three cases from Sibu Hospital.

SDMC added that the state today registered six cases of persons under investigation (PUI).
