Covid-19: Bangsar’s Jln Telawi cluster involving supermarket workers among 17 new clusters

PUTRAJAYA: The “Jalan Telawi” group in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, is among the 17 new Covid-19 groups detected by the Ministry of Health on Thursday (February 11).

In a statement, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new group has 21 confirmed cases among workers at a supermarket located in Jalan Telawi in Bangsar Baru.

“Positive cases in this group have been discovered since February 2, after a screening exercise targeting supermarket workers.

“As of February 11, a total of 150 people linked to the group had been tested, and 21 of them tested positive,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Of the 17 new groups, 13 are related to outbreaks detected in the workplace.

The ministry has also discovered an outbreak at a Kampung Bendera prison in Batu Gajah, Ipoh.

Dr. Noor Hisham said the Tembok Bendera group had 21 individuals who tested positive on inmates.

In Sarawak, an outbreak was detected in a longhouse in Nanga Lijan, Julau.

The index case had developed symptoms on January 27 and tested positive on February 4.

An examination of the 61-year-old man’s family members and his close contacts uncovered 22 more positive cases.

Dr. Noor Hisham, there are now 477 active groups across the country.

By Thursday, the number of Covid-19 recoveries in Malaysia had outnumbered the total number of new cases.

There were 3,384 new infections, while the number of patients discharged was 3,774.

There are also 13 dead.

The number of active cases stands at 51,783.

Selangor remained the state with the highest number of cases, registering 1,082 on Thursday.

Johor followed with 777 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 435 cases.

About the 13 deaths, Dr. Noor Hisham said that 11 were Malaysian citizens while two were foreigners.

Both foreigners, a 66-year-old man at Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan and a 42-year-old man at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, were pronounced dead upon arrival.
