PETALING JAYA: Seven people were found to be Covid-19 positive in an assessment conducted before the parliamentary session on Monday (November 2), says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director general of Health said that from the evaluation, an auxiliary policeman tested positive for the virus.

“The contact tracing that was carried out found that three of his colleagues, including his wife, also tested positive. Here, we already have five cases,” he said during his press conference on Monday (November 2).

Dr. Noor Hisham added that a person who works for the media also tested positive, adding that seven of his family members have been tested and are awaiting their results.

He also said that an aide to the senator was confirmed to have tested positive for the virus, but that 12 other people have been identified and quarantined.

“They (all 12) may be in the incubation period (of the virus), so we are not sure, so we have quarantined them at 12. We are still waiting for their results,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham noted that since Parliament will meet for six weeks, MPs will be exposed to the virus.

As such, he said that to prevent the spread of the virus, the ministry may be able to test every two weeks for any carriers of the virus.

“The infectivity of transmission is two days before one shows symptoms and seven days after symptoms. So infectivity (period) will take about nine days,” he said.

To manage risk, Dr. Noor Hisham said that all MPs must adhere to standard operating procedure, such as maintaining physical distance, washing hands and wearing a mask.
